New Year’s snow

for once I remember a dream

snow, sunrise

a sheltered spot

where the internet ends creaking in the wind

dead trees, fungi, trees

north face

the fall softened by moss

moss

i insist on a whisper

fallen leaves

fall foliage

woodpecker cackle

where a caterpillar hung one dancing leaf

leaves, trees

where a bird entered

the world as an egg

eggshell, wild turkeys

in the company

of mushrooms flying your leaf

mushrooms

destroying angel

mushroom on his chin old turtle

box turtle

blocking the trail

a castleback orbweaver’s latest fly

spiders, spiderweb, spined micrathena

out of my mind

the insects i’ve traded for this breeze

dead trees, trees

what the trees

at night are saying katy did

trees

trailside stump

an emerald ash borer’s
whole journey

dead trees, insects
