Author: Dave Bonta

I live in an Appalachian hollow in the Juniata watershed of central Pennsylvania, and spend a great deal of time walking in the woods. My books of poetry include FAILED STATE: HAIBUN, ICE MOUNTAIN: AN ELEGY, BREAKDOWN: BANJO POEMS, and ODES TO TOOLS.

pond scum

green bubbles from the frog who jumped in

seasonal pools

river on a cloudy day

these groundless blues

on foot

the empty streets smell of rain

monoku, monostich

rough sleeper

in an alcove
stained glass

cityscape, sidewalk

rattlesnake

at the scenic vista the distant sun

snakes

never over the moon

my poor little eyestalk

lichens, rocks

unplanned detour

bear cubs climbing into the sky

sleet melting in the Beltane sun

fringed polygala

gaywings, wildflowers

4/20

the way day-old leaves prepare for flight

leaves, oaks, trees

not as bright as my phone

full moon

American bittersweet

on his gravestone low as the sun

rocks

picnic for one

in the autumn forest
white hair aglow
a wild lettuce seed
drifts past

trees, wildflowers
