wilderness peak

checking my phone
for a signal

And because there was a signal, I made this haiga and uploaded it to Instagram on the spot (a ridge called Bald Mountain in central Pennsylvania’s Rothrock State Forest). Which is about as meta as I get.

My thought with the image was to challenge what people expect to see in a photo of a peak, in order to suggest a kind of turning away from the view to play with one’s electronic appendage — surely an experience nearly every hiker has had by now.
