Ogle Township

letting my shadow
lead the way

road

first fire

all the light that won’t
shine again

dead trees, trees

old birch

the wild gestures of one
living alone

trees

aviary vulture

the unyielding bones
of its cage

birds, black vulture

all in black I pass

a walker all in white
autumn mountain

rocks

saying hello

to a moss-covered log
heron wingbeats

dead trees, moss, trees

tree crickets

am I walking
the right way

slow fall

the standing dead
turn blue

dead trees, trees

fog saved in a cobweb

so lifelike

fog, grass

death in autumn

that inevitable cliché // the deplorable rightness of nature

fall foliage, hawk, red-tailed hawk, snakes, trees

safety orange

among blood-colored leaves—hunting season

fall foliage, salamanders

fallen hornets’ nest

the empty days
in his pocket calendar

insects
